(((Gwen)))
Hello everyone!
-
Gwen

Di – Sorry to read that Steve had car issues and such a high repair bill! I hope yous recover very quickly from that!
I’m glad Ruby don’t mind the cold weather. Does she make a mess with treats if she eats them inside?Selinda – I know my friends here are all caring and I truly try not to tell about issues such as the ongoing situation with us. I really am not a pity seeker, but do appreciate everyone’s understanding, concern and caring.

Hi Di and Selinda – Thank yous from the bottom of my heart for all the prayers…
I do pray for his comfort and know that God is helping him to ease and deal with his pain and helping to comfort him making him stronger and I both a bit stronger.It has been colder here the last few days and to top it off our heating system failed on Sunday night at about 10:30pm I noticed that it was getting a bit chilly in my house so I went to the thermostat and checked the temp and it was set on 73 as it always is and the heat was ON but the machine was not running and the inside temp was registering 68 degrees… Then I phoned the heat & air fella who installed it an of course you have to get the answer machine and leave a message. Luckily we had a couple of ceramic portable heaters we used in our 2 used bedrooms for the night. They came first thing on Monday morning and replaced a defective relay on our fairly new unit we had installed last winter end of November 2010, just a bit over 1 yr ago! He did not charge us and that was nice! He said there has been problems with those relays by that company that made that part and the company would take care of the cost.

Di
Janet, glad you feed the birds. I’d like to do that too, and now that there are no cats around, I might have to start.
Selinda, Ruby likes to eat treats outside, even when it’s cold and windy like today. She wanted to take a dentastick out, but I didn’t want to be out that long, so I gave her a snap to take out with her. She ate that, did what she needed to do, and then we came in. And didn’t that little brat want to take the dentastick out? Give her an inch, and she’ll try to take a yard.
Well, I gotta see if the laundry is done to hang it up. Have a great evening!
Waving hi to Rita and Mary!

Jo, there’s a new Hawaii Five-0 tonight.
I’m also watching The Voice. Anyone else?

Gwen, you and DH are always in my prayers. I hope the doctors can at least find a way to make him comfortable.

Hello everyone! Cold and windy here, but not as cold as it was over the weekend, when it was in the 20′s during the day. Got some snow Friday night, and snow showers Saturday. Supposed to be in the 40′s all week now, which will be nice.
Ruby is fine. Still wets herself, but not all the time. Had her out a little while ago. She had been sleeping on the couch, but then she was in the doorway, giving me her potty cry. (She’s the most vocal dog we’ve ever had. She snores, cries, whimpers, and does more. Very funny girl.)
We had to put the quilts on the bed this weekend, and we put the plastic sheet over them to protect them. So far, so good.
Steve had to get his car repaired yet again. $390. Sigh.
Other than that, there’s not much going on. Been pretty quiet lately.
-
Selinda
Oh, dear God, ((((Gwen)))), I ‘suspected’ the news was not good in regards to your DH, but I so hoped I was wrong. Extra strong prayers will be said that your DH’s physical pain can be lessened. My heart breaks and is sad for you, dear lady. Please know that I care.
-
Gwen
Hi Selinda,,, Indeed I’m great-full and thank God!
I certainly did not need that additional stress at this time!I don’t mind you asking about my DH…
He is now just doing pain control… There is nothing more they can do it’s a matter of weeks or a few months now. The day before Thanksgiving his cancer MD told us that his life expectancy from then was 3-6 months. It’s now in his hips, pelvic and upper leg bones and also his spine from his lower back and on up into his neck, he does not get around well anymore, I don’t leave him alone anymore, he is very tired most of the time and sleeps between doses of his short term Pain meds. He is on a trans-dermal patch for the long acting pain control. -

Jo, I should have said that I have read all of Jan Karon’s ‘Father Tim’ books. I have not read her books that do not have Father Tim. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Gwen, so nice to see some posts from you. And how wonderful that your DD does not have lymphoma! That is a blessing.
If you don’t mind answering, how is your DH doing? I don’t always ask because you may prefer not to answer ~ and I understand. BUT my prayers are still being sent for you, your DH and your family.

Janet – I agree getting a pet from a local shelter is better due to illnesses etc. Usually they are given shots and everything and are healthy or they would not keep them for adoption. My brother got a very nice cat a long time ago and she really was a good one and just a few months ago she was so old and got ill he had to put her down… I think animals from the shelter appreciate their new homes and usually make great pets.
-
Gwen
Looks like many of yous are busy elsewhere too!
Jo, Janet, Selinda, good to see yous…
Rita, Di, and Mary – I hope it’s just that yous are just too busy to post in lately.
Rita – Lovely gifs of birds and cats together.
Jo & Di – I hope your weather is not too cold and snowy… It’s mighty cold here right now… we got a 2nd dusting of snow a couple of days ago. It’s been cold then warm but not much snow this winter here.
Mary – have you had very much snow there? I hope so!!

Gwen
Hello everyone,,,
I thought I’d better check in and let yous all know I’m still hanging in there!
It’s not been easy between clearing my mom’s place and now mostly just caring for DH.
My plate stays very full lately… We had a scare with DD (baby Macade’s mom) she had surgery to remove several lymph nodes in her neck.
Thank God it was not Lymphoma which is what they thought it was.Speaking of baby Macade he and his big brother spent the evening with us late evening while Sis and dad went to a father daughter school dance and mom set up to do portraits at the dance. I am really beat this morning after chasing Macade out of stuff all evening. He spent lots of time in his portable high chair which I secure onto my dinning chair. I feel I did lift him too many times. Finally I bathed him and put his PJs on him and took him in my office where my playpen was set up to sleep until mom and dad got here as it was past his bedtime!

Jo we got it at a store called Blue Seal. It carries products for small farmers. It comes in 50 pound bags. I’ll bet any farm store carries something like it. The squirrels love it.

Good Morning, Ladies!
Hope everyone is doing good today.
Jo, I also love and enjoy reading the Jan Karon books with Father Tim. They really are so nicely written and the characters have become like family members to me, almost. I have all of Jan Karon’s books.
Di, how is your little Ruby doing? Better I hope.
Janet, I can just picture those turkeys turning their noses (beaks?) up at the different and cheaper seeds but then coming back a short time later to eat ALL of it up! Silly birds!
-
Sally Jones
Hey Jo, the young toms are called jakes. We feed them a mixture called Wildlife Grains. It’s got everything in it and appears to be coated with something sweet and somewhat sticky. The turkeys and squirrels love it. The little birds, not so much. It costs $12.50 for a 50 pound bag. We were feeding them sunflower chips at $48.00 for a 50 pound bag. It was beginning to get expensive since we now have about 24 turkeys coming. Poor things, the ice is so thick they can’t scratch through it to get to their natural food.
-
Smileyriley0_3
Hi all!
Think the place in Cedar Falls charges 50-60 dollars also..ummmm, so the tom turkeys are called jakes??
Did you just give them reg bird seed? or shelled corn or corn on cob?? I put some out for the birds again on the step this aft..some juncos were eating the crumbs of the last stuff so put this out and is still there…lol..birds!! Shoulders are hurting today and think it is cuz of weather change or from holding books in arms reading..read thru 7 books called the Father Tim novels by Jan Karon..very nice books and no cussing or too much romance that is explicit, are just wholesome books… Get to see chiro tomorrow and see what comes of it…
hope can go alone but will see what happens…take care janet and DON’T FALL ON THE ICE!! -
Sally Jones
Cold today and icy slick. But the sun is shinning brightly and keeping the house warm. The hen turkeys have been joined by the jakes. We now have about 20+- turkeys coming to the patio to be fed.
We got them some cheaper seeds than the sunflower chips we had been feeding them. When they arrived and found the cheaper stuff they cocked their heads, peered suspiciously at it and walked disdainfully away. However, two minutes passed and they decided that cheap seeds were better than starvation, headed back to eat every seed. Silly birds. I’m really glad they aren’t our national emblem as Ben Franklin wished. They are such dopes. LOL

Jo, I think our shelter charges $25 to $50 for their cats and they are already spayed and checked out for health. I’d rather get one from the shelter and save it from euthanasia than try to find someone with kittens for sale. We don’t have any feral cats to tame. The coyotes take care of them.

Hi Selinda! The nice weather we had Tues, Wed and Thurs sure helped my sidewalk finally get clear with help of rock salt…and today had fog in night and and this early morn and later it started spitting rain lightly all day until evening..Glad you’re feeling better with teeth fixed..And you are feeling better with the exercise class..Just dont want to get a cold if took the classes here…Up and down weather here isnt good with wet suit to drive home with or have to drag everything with me to take shower and not worth it at all…
good thinking of getting her checked out at Vet-=Ruby, I mean!! Didnt think of that at all…We will see what weekend brings…Take care all!!! -
Selinda
Morning, Jo.

Hi all!!
Janet: I hear from 2 friends from diff parts of country they are kinda expensive ..one said $150. and another $250.But it included spaying and neutering and microchip…the one nearest me is less but you have to have them “fixed” in a certain time frame or will not let you have them…
I certainly hope you will get one that will like to “play ” with them to death…had one in basement many yrs ago at Dad’s and Mitzi and Julie worried tht poor mouse to death..never did see it again or see it down in basement anywhere dead…like to think it made it out mousehole it came thru but somehow doubt it!!!! Mousie dinner!!!Di: Sorry about the Ruby troubles…Would put it under sheets and also a square where she sleeps and put her “blankie on top of it”..Might or might not work… My cats Mitzi and Julie did that to me too and I gave them a talk to Jesus talk nd they didnt do it again…they say it means they are your property and are close to you when they do that…even tho we dont appreciate what they do…
We are to get more white or rain stuff this weekend so tomorrow am going out and salt the ice on walk to street…
Did Steve sleep in recliner instead of bed? Would work especially if had to go early…Take care everyone,
-
Di
Hello everyone! Sorry I haven’t been around for a while. Computer issues, sleep issues, Ruby issues.
Got a couple of inches of snow not long ago, and it was all gone the following week. Then we got rain a few days later.
This week, were were in the low 60′s yesterday and today. Would’ve felt a bit warmer if it wasn’t for the chilly winds.
Ruby is fine, Jo, though she’s having issues. She’s had several accidents on the bed. Well, Sunday night, I got into bed, and my side was wet. I went ballistic. I was just tired of doing the sheets. To top it off, I had no clean sheets, so I threw our summer set in the wash because they take less time then the flannel.
Steve got up when I started getting mad, and he stayed up. After I put the sheets in the dryer, he decided to go over to Walmart to get a plastic sheet. We use that as a cover and Ruby sleeps on top of it. Problem solved for now.Not a whole lot going on at the moment. Trying to think of a place to have a party for Dad’s 80th birthday. The place I thought of going, Old Country Buffet, closed about a month ago. So, have to find another place.
Well, gotta run. It’s 7:30PM and I haven’t done a thing. My bad!
Have a great evening! Bookin’! -

Old deeds tell wonderful stories. The deed to our old farm house contained a clause stating that “no payment of any kind will be given to Sarah Fling”
Later when we bought the house next door we found out about Sarah Fling. It was quite a story.

Hey all, Some snow, but not much. Jeffy our faithful plower of driveways didn’t come and didn’t come and didn’t come. Called him today. Apparently he is no longer plowing. He left us a message at Christmas time when we were in Oregon. Good thing there hasn’t been much snow.
We bought the woods across the stream from our cabin. A surveyor/lawyer friend looked at the deed and just shook his head. It’s one of those deeds where the original 1840′s boundaries were set from certain trees, which have been cut down or died and rotted down so you can’t locate the original boundaries. Then every time the land has changed hands the description has gotten a little shorter and less descriptive. The deed we got says only land from Huber to Haynes to us: no description. I’ve seen a lot of bad deeds, and had to trace them back to straighten out what was being transferred but this one takes the cake. We’ll have to hire a surveyor.

Hello, Everyone!

Hi all! Spilled water on the flat keyboard so have old one out and using that and is such a good feeling..didnt like the new one but I sure didnt mean to spill water and have it affect it. the N and spacebar wouldnt work, neighbor said to try it again in few days and see if it would work…Maybe will but think will use it for back up…dont like the flatness of them and are square.This one has cupping on the keys which I like….Got 7 ” of snow and then got thin icing of ice on top and then thin snow on top of it…needless to say I didnt do walk for the snow and ice….cousin Jim did the mess of the 7 inches. Havent been out sinc e Jim did the walk… Got to go to Grundy tomorrow so will be out, wont I? lol…Will prolly go and come back…
Rita: Thank you for the kitty gifs, are sooooo darling!!! and also the chickadee gifs, even tho I have mostly sparrows, gold finches in winter clothes and juncos…
I too have memories of going to my Aunt’s house in Tripoli and she had the old huge house and stairway and the old cookstove also..she always told me not to stand so close when she took out the bread and couldnt wait till she cut it and put butter on it!! Later on in life they moved to town and son bought it and really changed it and I hated it!!
We were only out there that one time and I asked my father “why they had to change the house ?” he said son didnt like it the old way..
oh well, we didnt go back out unless Aunt said she was there for awhile and then we would go to town for tea at their house and visit.. -
rita
Just popin for a min..
Janet its kinda sad the kids today will never know that feeling, it truely
is something you have to live through…For me a kid who grew up in
burbs, but then was able to go back in time when going to my
grandparents farm was really special..it was like taking a walk back
into history….my dad often said if that ole farmhouse could talk
it would have many tales to tell..lolol…it was in the family for 3
generations…..times i will always cherish…

You’re right there is something special about grandmothers and wood cook stoves.
-
Sally Jones
Selinda. When we lived in an old barn of a farm house we had a Vermont Castings Vigilant. Wore that old stove completely out trying to heat 9 rooms, two big halls with high ceilings and no insulation. We’d go through 7-10 cords a winter. That was when the boys were home and the husb was young. LOL

Hello Ladies!
Janet omg brrr thats cold!…You took me back with talking about
the wood cook stove, my grandmother most of my childhood cooked
on one of those…Food taste so good, and even with the exact same
recipe you cannot get that same taste…biscuits were so wonderful
coming out of that stove and the kitchen was always the warmest
room in the house on a cold winter day…I miss my grandmother
terribly she had a big influence on me and a big part of who i am
came from her…thank you for the moments of taking me back to
things i don’t often think about anymore…they were wonderful
times for me…I am and was a lucky gal with a wonderful wonderful
parents and grandparents…
Selinda, its been very mild here this winter as well, i have only had
on my winter coat now about 3 times…Tonight we are suppose to
rise up to around 50 and have bad thunderstorms and wind…the ice
that is still on the ground will be gone by morning…its been a very
strange weather winter this year…

Selinda
Hello Everyone!
Janet, my DH and I have a Vermont Castings Wood Stove. We built our home around 1979 and had builders and brick/tile masoners make the necessary support and brick/tile surfaces and a place to stack the wood. Our wood stove sits on ceramic tiles. It comes in really handy when the temperatures are really cold or below 0 and especially if the electrical power goes off. I can sit a big pot of soup or stew on it so that we can also have a nice hot meal(s) when and if needed.
We also have lots of wood to use in the wood stove. Thus far, we have never had to buy any wood. But, we do live back in the woods.
Rita, as always, your ‘snowy’ gifs are gorgeous. Thanks for sharing. Thus far, our winter here in SWMO has been very mild. We have had only 1 very small snow with some light ice. And our temperatures have not been below 0 thus far! Hurray!
-
Sally Jones
After lunch with friends we went to a nearby store that sells wood burning stoves. Maine has lots and lots of woods and many of us have a wood burning stove somewhere in the house.
Well, strategically placed so it would catch the eye as one walked in was the most beautiful wood cook stove I’ve ever seen. It had all the bells and whistles: chrome fittings, a huge fire box, a good sized oven and an enclosed warming oven polished steel top. OMG it was beautiful. The husb had to drag me out of the store before I bought it on the spot.
When we designed the house we are in I don’t know why I didn’t insist on a wood cook stove in the kitchen. I love cooking on one. When we had one in the old house I always felt so self sufficient especially when the electricity went out.

Hello Everyone!…
Its a cold wintery night here, we got freezin rain and ice
late last night, it is not too bad the road guys here do
an awesome job of cleaning, the roads are clear now
and they are saying tom, we will hit 40 and get rain!…
Wow, this has been a very mild winter and i too am
thinking spring now!…Have not so far had to scrap the
driveway!…crossing fingers this continues for the next
couple of months!…lol
Di, i heard you were getting snow…About the color
thingy here you have to put the code in for each line,
its really a pita if you ask me!…
Janet your hot chocy sounds really pretty good right
about now!..
Selinda the classes sound like that will be fun!…and
hopefully it will help you…
Gwen, gtsy i know your busy but glad you can drop in
now and again!…
Mary, you still need to come pick up your winter weather
lolol…hope things are good that way..
Jo, i too have just been keeping busy here this winter
i try to do all the things inside i don’t have time to do
in the summer, ie cleaning out closets, drawers all
that fun stuff!…I have a old pie safe i need to repaint
was hoping to do that this wkend, but its a little too
cold for me to do that but if it hits close to 50 next wk
i will get that done!…Having a house things never end,
if one is to keep it clean!…This way in the summer its
just the sweeper, mopping of floors and dusting for me,
well maybe windows, and carpet cleaning which i will do
first sign of spring and i can open the windows!…see
i told you it never ends, i can always find things to do!..
grrr, i need maid service!…lol
Ok everyone, i am scootin after i throw up couple of
picys, waving to anyone i forgot, take care
-

How is everybody? Don’t let a bit of cold weather and snow get you down. The days are getting longer. Make a cup of hot cocoa with a big marshmallow floating in it. Sit and watch the snow come down and think spring thoughts. LOL

Well, just looked up from the computer and it is as we say in Maine “spitting snow” That’s one of the most unattractive of sayings indigenous to Maine. There are lots of funny little sayings from Maine. I think it’s because so many of the coastal and deep inland communities were really isolated for so long they developed their own sayings and words. My favorite is using the word” jumped” instead of “suprised” or “scared”. As in, “Ooooo, that cat jumped me”.
-

It’s back to the gym for me. University is back in session, my student trainer is back from vacation and eager to make me sweat.
Also got to get back into weaving. That room full of yarn isn’t going to weave itself. Especially if I keep buying more and weaving less. A blanket for the Phoenix grandson is the next thing.
-

Afternoon everyone. Maine definitely did not get hammered. We got 3 maybe 4 inches of light fluffy stuff. It’s not even enough get Jeffie interested in plowing out the driveway. Either that or Jeffie is out ice fishing and can’t be bothered to come out of his cozy ice shack to plow a crumby little 3 inches. LOL For Jeffie a job is only a means to supporting an addiction to hunting and fishing. He’s a happy sort. Maybe the secret to life is doing exactly what you love to do and putting up with a job.

Hello everyone! Before I get started, I want to say:
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, SELINDA!!!!!!!!
I was having computer problems this week. Pages were taking 20 seconds to load, so I called my go to computer guy, Jim. He was here on Wednesday and got it all straightened out. Now my computer is rockin’ n’ rollin’!
We’re going to get snow tonight. Possibly 5 inches, unless it changes over to sleet or freezing rain. Needless to say, I will be staying home tomorrow.
Jo, hope you weren’t having too much pain from shoveling snow. That is a pain.
Glad you’re taking care of the stray kitties. My sister does that.Rita, is it snowing there yet?
I sure hope Mary is getting snow with this storm. We can but hope, huh?
Selinda, glad you’re taking those water classes and glad you’re enjoying the exercise.
Gwen, we’ll see how Ruby makes out this time around. Hope it stays all snow. Don’t want her slipping and sliding!
Janet, are you going to get snow too? I heard that some places are getting hammered.
Going to have some potato soup and a chicken patty sammie. Yum!
Hope you all have a good evening! Bookin’!

Hello, Ladies!
This afternoon is gorgeous here in SWMO. Temps to be in the 50′s after this morning’s low of 14.
Ok, I’m ready for Summer!
Yesterday I started a water exercise class for folks with arthritis. Thus far, I am doing pretty good with it. MY rheumatoid arthritis has been getting worse and worse and has made even walking hard for me. The water exercise class for folks with arthritis will be good for me. My classes meet on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I really am enjoying it, thus far!

A belated Happy Birthday, Selinda. Glad it was a special day for you.

THANK YOU, EVERYONE for the wonderful birthday wishes and greetings! How very sweet of all of you!
I had a nice birthday yesterday. My dh and I ate an early supper of Applebee’s. I had a really nice and tasty steak and my dh had their lime chicken. It was all ‘great eats’!
And, we had snow here in SWMO this past Thursday. We didn’t have a lot of snow, more of just a ‘dusting’ but it had ice underneath it. So area schools were cancelled. Plus it was 15 degrees outside and much too cold for students to wait in the dark for the school buses.
But Friday and Saturday and today have been lovely with temps near the upper 40′s. My kind of weather.
Do any of you watch the ABC tv show, “Exteme Home Makeover”? That might not be the exact name of the show. Anyways, this past November they came to Joplin, MO (which is just 8 miles north of me) and built 7 homes for 7 families in 7 days! They had thousands and thousands of workers to help them. Oh, my, but what a wonderful thing they did for these 7 families. One family had lost 2 little sons to the Joplin Tornado of 5/22/11 and another family had lost 1 little boy, too. The houses were fully furnished and decorated for each family and each house was built very different from any of the other 7 houses. While the building took place for that week, the families were sent to Disney World in Orlanda, Florida.
The show was very touching and heart rendering. I could not help crying when watching it, especially when the families were talking about their children who had died in the tornado.
And it was so uplifting to see so many ‘strangers’ come to help these 7 families in such a major way.
I have no idea how each family was chosen for the 7 houses. After all hundreds of families lost their homes and some loved ones, too. But, still, it was a wonderful and heart-warming thing.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SELINDA!!! HOPE YOU HAVE MANY MORE!!!!!
We were up to27 today after yest being cold and windy..But did get my sidewalk shoveled and some of snow removed from in front of garage. Today after going to store for “stuff” I tackled the drive that cousin didnt have time to come and see if needed help to remove snow from…Made me kinda mad today that he didnt call or come and see if needed it removed just assumed I would get i t done by neighbor that is 2x his age or I would get it done and do back in…Took tylenol that is time released and it has been a blessing so far when using it…Friend in Vinton has finally gotten her computer up and she is soooo happy like I was to be online again…When had the bad wind I didnt have any kitties come for food but were here tonite…Ate quite a bit and put some more in dish when saw one of them had eaten some like 1/2 so more in dish. Heard a noise out there and looked and Whitey was leaving and Mooch acted like he was scared and ran off and then came back..I saw Whitey and called her and she wanted to come back but was reluctant to go thru snowbank and seemed dumb to go to path I shovelled to Clarissa’s from my driveway and come up to the house soo she took off but rubbed and meowed at me and then took off…Mooch came back and wanted attention so gave him some rubbs on head and around in neck area and then he tackled the new cat food again..Bought 2 5 lb sack of potatoes and forgot I had 1/2 bag I had put in a box out of my sight so dont have to worry abt running out of taters…Lol… -

I apologize for the down time and the missing posts.

Lol, Janet on dribbling!! It was in 50′s here today and is to be in upper 30′s Sat and Sun with chance of maybe rain one of the 2 days…will take that over snow any day!! Will prolly have to deal with grasshoppers this summer way the experts are talking but will cross that bridge when it comes, I think we will get snow before Spring comes for sure if my name is jo.
All for now.. -
Sally Jones
Well, my little conversation with the the snow clouds must have done some good. It is snowing. It’s not what anyone would call a real snow storm as the snow is just dribbling (can snow dribble?) down. However, thinking back to last winter’s snows mostly they just dribbled also, ……………………. for 24 hours at a time. A lot can accumulate in 24 hours even if it’s just dribbling.
-
Smileyriley0_3
Hi all, enjoyed the cloud talk also..
It was around 59-60 outside today depending where you were and where sunshine was!! Didnt go outside had taking of tree down and ornaments to sort out and put in crate, put in bag out in porch orn. made with stuffed baked in oven, and some white reindeer that we had and they were supposed to stand but these other ones dont so hung on windows with hooks and suction cups..and then changed the cedar chests with new scarves that were tan drapes and folded them so wouldnt look a fright and put my kittens back on Aunts cedar chest with a huge bouquet of silk flowers Julie gave me for birthday..will do for now..and did dishes and then got some dirrty for supper again…never ending…maybe tomorrow or Sat will get outside stuff in as I see the neighbors around me have theirs inside already..lol..guess they dont like Christmas!!
di:Sorry didnt see note abt Pauley Parrette until it was over like 11pm when read the board…sorry..
Rita: yeah it is a light pink, put deep pink and will be darker..
Got to go, left arm is killing me tonite… -
Selinda
Janet, I enjoyed reading your ‘conversation’ with that cloud! Very imaginative! I like that cloud and her attitude, as I don’t want any snow either.
Mary, I do enjoy seeing your ‘snowy’ gifs, but that’s as close to snow as I want to get this year.
-
Di
Waving hi to Selinda!
Gonna get out of here for a while. Might be back later. Have a good evening! Bookin’!
-
Di
Gwen, I hope you’re having a good day. It’s only in the twenties today. Be in the 30′s tomorrow. Then low 40′s for a couple of days.
-
Di
A quick note for Jo. There’s a show on CBS tonight at 8:00est called I Get That A Lot. Pauley Perrette (Abby, NCIS) is on it. Definitely gonna watch it!
-
Di
Mary, I don’t mind snow, but when we start getting 6″ or 12″, I get annoyed! LOL! Ruby is low to the ground, so it’s hard for her to get around if it’s over 2″!
-
Di
Janet, I like your conversation with the cloud. I think Mary will try that! LOL!

Di
Did ya post and poof? BTW, I love the pink haired lady!

Hello Everyone!…
Gwen, thanks for the tip…yes it is too bad that people hotlink, but pb tells me that my picys are on other sites beside here and this is the only site i post picys on…would you believe that just one of my christmas picys had 429 hits!…and several others over 300 hits…thanks for the tip, i will give that a go if i see my bandwidth is becoming an issue…I just hope people who enjoy the picys will snag them to their computer and not hot link, if i use my bandwidth then i can’t post anymore pretty picys…
Mary awww i know you want some snow, yes we got a dusting and its been really cold the last couple of days, but going to go back to 50 on friday…Its been a mild winter so far thats ok with me as you know!….
Selinda sorry you were ill, but glad your feeling better, nothing worse than being sick anytime but the holidays are the worst i think…
Di yes i had more than that on the hits we do have a lot of lurkers that enjoy the picys, as i said before i like that but not so much when they use my bandwidth…lol…
Janet glad you got home, do you all have snow that way?
Jo, your winter is not too bad this year either?…won’t be long it will be spring, yeah!….
Olligby waving at you too so glad to see you post to us…
Waving at anyone i forgot i am scootin things to do see you all later….

So far, this is the most depressing winter I have ever had. And if I am going to have to suffer through a winter with no snow, then I think I will actually be (and i can’t believe I am saying this) looking forward to Spring. At least I can have the windows open.
-
podunkqueen
LOLOLOLOL@ Janet. Love it!
That’s what it is like here also. Brown, dry and ugly!
-
Sally Jones
Well, thank goodness someone is bringing us snow ’cause the weather sure isn’t. It is dry and dusty and brown in northern Maine. Looks dreadful.
Conversation between Janet and the clouds……..
Me:(holding computer up to the sky) Now look here cloud, you see that white stuff Mary has on all her pictures?
Cloud (closing eyes) Not looking, Nope
Me (shaking computer until some of the snow falls out) See that, that’s snow. We need some of that.
Cloud (eyes still closed) Can’t see a thing
Me: Listen cloud, you don’t have to open your eyes, you know perfectly well what I’m talking about. This is Maine, it’s winter, you’re supposed to snow and you know it.
Cloud (whining) Go away. I can’t snow
Me: What???? Of course you can, it’s winter. You rained all summer you most certainly can snow now.
Cloud(whining harder) No I can’t. I used up all my moisture this summer raining.
Me: Well, isn’t that just dandy. You wasted all your moisture pouring down rain we didn’t want. What are you going to do about this?
Cloud(fading away into blue sky) …………….. Nothing!
And It looks like that’s what we are going to get the rest of January …. nothing. GRUMP, grump, grump!!!

Good Afternoon Everyone! Well, I got all the Christmas decorations put up, the house is clean, and now I can take a break. It’s a job that I really dislike doing, but it has to be done. It sure does look plain now though. I love having the house decorated for Christmas.
RITA…Sorry about the bandwidth in your account, but I can now see all the pics, except the ones you moved or deleted. Just do what Gwen said and rename the pics. That will hold your bandwidth down. You got some snow didn’t you? I still haven’t seen a flake! And from what they are saying, we won’t anytime soon either. By this Friday, it will be in the 60′s. Can you believe that happening in January? LOL! very weird.
JANET….Glad to see you made it back home ok, even though the route was a PITA. LOL@ your mailbox being DOA.
JO….Glad to see that you enjoyed your birthday. Funny how it is that when people are kids, those birthdays are SOOO important, as compared to your older years when they are SOOOO unimportant. LOL! No snow for you up there either huh? I know you are liking that.
GWEN….good to see you posting in. Nope, no snow here, and it sucks. LOL! How can you have winter and none of the good stuff? LOL! I hope your New year has started off well.
SELINDA…So sorry to hear that you had been so sick, but it sounds as if you are on the road to feeling better now. I thought my New Year’s tag was really interesting also. The lady that does most of mine is so talented. Sometimes I wish I had the time and the patience to do that, but then I am also glad I don’t LOL! It is a very time consuming hobby, and time is something I seem to be in short supply of most days. Hope all is well by you.
DI….You should be enjoying this mostly snow free winter. Just think, Spring will be here before you know it. I think it is going to come early this year anyway. The bugs and the flowers are already confused out here. I just looked on the calendar, and Easter is on April 8th this year, so it really will feel that Spring will be early.
SWEETNESS….Happy New Year to you and yours also.
OK…break time is about over for me. Gonna post a few pics, then back to get into something else. LOL! Have a great day and stay warm.~~~~~

Hello girls!!
~~~Waving to Rita, Di, Mary, Jo, Janet & Selinda
Di – indeed the choccie cake is scrumptious looking!!
Rita – If you have a picture that you really want to keep just change the image name on it and it will break the links on others posts where they used it yet you will still keep your pictures.
It is a shame that folks hotlink not thinking about what issues it causes for the ones who are hosting it. -
rita
hi di sorry i missed you….yes several of my picys had over 300 hits, pb keeps count ….i was amazed myself…ok i am off here for the night…see you guys later…i feel soooo neekied without my picys…whaaaaa…ok night all gone!
I’m having a burger tomorrow with mac n’ cheese. Yummy!
Di
I finished the turkey and mashed potatoes today for lunch and dinner. There’s a little bit of stuffing and brussel sprouts left. That’ll be gone tomorrow! Heh!
-
Di
Rita, some of your pics had 300 hits? I didn’t think there were that many peeps here in Ultimatechat, unless we have a lot of looky loos. Shades of eBay, maybe?
-
Di
Looking forward to seeing new episodes of Once Upon A Time. Anyone else watching this?
-
Di
Wonder when we’ll get some new Criminal Minds episodes? I really want to know!
Hello everyone! Welcome back, Rita! It is COLD here, be in the teens tonight. I want to hide under the covers and hibernate until it gets warm!
Gwen, that chocolate cake looks so good!
Glad you had a great birthday, Jo! On Hawaii Five-0, I don’t know what Joe is up to, but it can’t be good. Hope Steve can find out what’s going on before Joe gets himself killed!
Did you watch NCIS and NCIS: LA tonight? Oh my, Tony and Ziva had a “Moment”. Then Ray called and ruined it! Bah!
And how about the new Assistant Director? I don’t trust him. When Callen asked Hetty if Granger was here to stay, Hetty said yes, but couldn’t say how long. Then Callen said, he hoped it would be a happy ending, and walked away. Then Hetty said “Not bloody likely!”
Hmmmmmmm. I think Hetty can take him! LOL! -
Janet: Sorry you had so much trouble coming home and someone had too much to drink on N.Y. Hello Everyone!!
and …
-
Di
Cold here, with snow showers expected later. Yep, winter is here!
Hope you’re having a great birthday, Jo! Where did you go?
Selinda, Ruby is a blessing, no doubt. She can be a pain sometimes, but most of the time, she’s a really good girl. Also entertaining. It’s so funny watching her play with her treats. She has a whole routine. She shortens it sometimes, but you should see the whole performance. She’ll toss it, roll on it, yip at it and generally has a great time till she finally gets down to eating it. Heh!
She’s very vocal, too. She just gave me her potty whine just a while ago. LOL!
If she’s on the couch with Steve in the morning, and I come out, she starts a little whine, which means she wants scratched.
Lately, she’s become a couch potato, sleeping on the couch most of the evening. She only gets up when Steve gets home from work.
I’ll bet your furbaby is fun to have around.
Janet, sorry your flight wasn’t pleasant, but you’re home now and can get back to your routine.
I agree about the free ads. Then maybe you’ll get real people running for election, instead of these phony balonies that are only interested in getting elected so they can make money off all kinds of things, including insider trading. Not fair.Waving hi to everyone else!
Oh, new Hawaii Five-0 tonight. Bookin’!
Selinda: I agree, the money spent on getting elected is obscene. Just think what could be done with that money instead of spending it on TV ads and rushing around the country smiling, shaking hands, pandering and making promises impossible to keep.
My solution would be to require the radio and TV to turn over a massive number of hours to politicians for free and require the politicians to actually discuss real topics with each other using facts instead of rhetoric. The air waves belong to the public not to the stations, so they can just serve the public for a change instead of their bottom line and give time to intelligent public debate.
Politicians would not be allowed any other air time, just the free time. That would cut the cost of campaigning by about 75%.
After that I would wave my magic political wand and prevent groups of any kind from contributing any money in any form to any part of the political process. Corporations, companies, unions, think-tanks, pressure groups, coalitions, PACs are not people and should not be allowed to give money to politicians. Only individual citizens would be allowed to send money to politicians.
I think a very good argument can be made that when organized groups of any kind whether they are unions or corporations get involved in politics in the name of free speech and can spend millions to control elections and drown out any opinions but theirs you are essentially denying the individual citizen their right to be heard.
-
Sally Jones
Home, finally. I am here to tell you that flying the “friendly skies” is not as much fun as one might think. When you see those happy people deplaning on to bucolic, landscaped vacation spots, looking fresh, rested and fashionably dressed in pressed and unspotted clothing waving happily to waiting friends ….don’t believe a single word of it. The truth is a flying stock car full of grubby, grumpy adults and whiny kids herded like cows through a rickety tunnel into a crowded stock yard and into another tunnel onto another flying stock car. It ain’t like the ads ………. believe me.
Good to be home. However, we are in the market for a new mail box. Someone filled with jolly holiday spirit mistook our mail box for the road and ran over it. We found it lying on it’s side, mouth open, looking very sad with it’s post broken off at the stump and obviously DOA.
HAPPY NEW YEAR’S, Everyone!
Finally 2012 is here. Now if we can just get the POTUS election over with without all the ‘negativity’, lies, lies, and more lies ~ on BOTH SIDES over with, too! What a waste of MONEY and time just to elect folks to ‘represent’ us but who do NOT actually represent us at all! Our Founding Fathers must be ‘rolling in their graves’!
I was very sick over Christmas and thus did not fix our Christmas Dinner until this past Thursday. So we still have left-over turkey. I will use the rest of the 5 lb. turkey breast to make a turkey casserole tomorrow for supper. Works for me.
Gwen, so nice to see a post from you. Please know that my prayers are still with you, your DH and your whole family.
Di, hasn’t little Ruby been such a nice blessing for you and your DH? She came into you lives as just the right time!
Mary, I loved your ‘Count Down Clock’ gif! Very interesting.
Janet, hope you are finally home from your long trip. Traveling is so very tiring, I think.
Happy EARLY Birthday, Jo! Hope tomorrow will be a good day for you!
Hello everyone! Not quite midnight here… But wanted to stop in to say Happy New Year to you all!
It’s been a very busy week here… One of our daughters has been here helping me much of the week, but she went back home to Nashville last night so she could spend New Years with her hubby and 2 sons! She will be back in a couple of days. -
Di
Well, I think I’ll close out now and maybe see yas tomorrow night. Maybe!
Sweet dreams everyone! Bookin’!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
At midnight, I went outside. Could see fireworks all over the place, and lots of gunfire. Much more than usual. Some people were shooting shotguns, and boy, was that loud!!!!!
We watched an NCIS marathon, and now Steve’s asleep back in the bedroom with Ruby.
I’m doing the flannel sheets, and darn it, the fitted sheet stained my new dryer! So I figure the other sheets will, too. Makes me mad because I’ve washed them several times and they’re still “bleeding”.
Next time, I’m gonna look for all white sheets!Jo, I’m so glad you had a nice Christmas. Sounds like a lot of fun. Glad you had chocolate. We all need that in our diet. I think it’s mandatory for women! LOL!
I’m sure you’ll find someplace to eat out tomorrow.
Mary, we’re going out to eat tomorrow for pork and sauerkraut.
Tonight, we had turkey, stuffing (Dad’s recipe), mashed potatoes, gravy and brussel sprouts. Was really good, and we had leftovers. Will be making turkey noodle soup on Monday.
Yeah, I’ll bet the kids keep you hopping. Good you’re getting a break soon. Heh!
Janet, so sorry your flight was canceled. That’s a bummer. Have a safe trip home tomorrow.
Hi Sweetness! Same to you!
Hi all!!
Mary: Yes we took for Cedar Falls around 10 a.m. and got back home before 5pm..had a good time shopping at KMart and Goodwill..found some John Deere tractor lights at Goodwill and got a pair of pants at Kmart for $2.39 must be best kept secret there as was advertised 9.98 so maybe early markdown for new year??Ate at pizza ranch and is it big and down from there is GoodWill place . the goodwill place didnt mark down their christmas stuff so it was not taken by the peeps coming in from pza ranch place but was happy with lights for either neighbor or cousin’s boy Riley…
We ate around 12:30 ..good meal and regular size chicken pieces unlike Bonanza of wings and drumsticks from wings…cheapskates!! and didnt haveto pay extra for drink..was included.
Think I am going to go to Grundy to eat since I forgot to get pork chops out so would be thawed out naturally instead of using water to soak them in..only face down in 1 inch cold water if do it that way…So we will see how it goes tomorrow..Will make applesalad on 2nd and have pork chops then for dinner!! Where there’s a will there is a way…
Gwen: thinking of you and hubby
Rita: thx for nice kitty card and Di also!!! Hope this coming year is a good one for us all!!!!! -
Our flight out was canceled so we stayed an extra day in Oregon. We are supposed to fly out tomorrow at 6AM. The connections are horrible. Oregon to Salt Lake City to Atlanta to Maine, then drive the rest of the way home. Looks like a very long day coming up.
New Year’s resolution. Every time an airline ad that says “Fly the Happy Skies with US” point middle finger toward airplane in the sky.
Hi Everyone! Thought I would stop in and wish everyone a wonderful New Year, just in case I don’t get a chance to get back in for a few days.
DI….LOL…..I had a few days to rest up from the Christmas activities, but now I am just super busy watching Grandkids. With them still being out of school, and their parents having to work, I have my hands full. By the time the day is over, I am too pooped to do much besides fall into bed. That’s ok though, they all go back on Tuesday. That’s a good idea about going out to eat on New Years Eve. That is what hubby and I are going to do also, but will probably go in the early evening to avoid the crowds. I do not like being anywhere on the roads, even in town after dark, when it is a party night. After that I am sure we will just come home and will probably be asleep long before midnight. LOL!
JO….I hope you and your cousins are going early also. I hope you have a wonderful time and a great visit. I would imagine that every restaurant will be open for business. That is a big money making day for them.
JANET….Hope you and hubby made it home ok without to much hassle. Do you guys do anything special for New Years Eve? I have never been to Oregon, but have always wanted to see it. I know there is some stunningly beautiful places there. Got any pictures of the area you where at? Would love to see some.
Well….it is almost 11:00 pm here, and I am exhausted, so I will say goodnight. Be careful, be safe, and I hope everyone’s New Year is better than the last.~~~~
Hello everyone! Looks like most are still recuperating from the holiday rush. I’m vegging out this week. Just doing laundry.
We got some snow today, enough to coat the grassy areas. Rain coming in for tomorrow. I feel like a yo-yo with this weather!
Janet, have a safe trip home. See ya when ya get back!
Talked to Dad the other day. For New Year’s Day, instead of making pork and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and dumplings, Mom and Dad are going to go to a restaurant for their holiday meal. So we’ll be going there, too.
Anyone have plans for New Year’s Eve? We will be staying home. We’ll be having turkey, mashed potatoes and maybe stuffing. I have the turkey breast in the fridge to thaw.
Well, that’s all for now. Have a good evening! Bookin’!
Hello everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! We were over at Mom’s and Dad’s house. Had lasagna around 1:30, then stuck around to talk. Later, we were surprised when my brother, Steve, my sister-in-law, Kathy, and my niece, Stephanie, stopped in! Was soooooo good to see them!
They had gift baskets for Steve and I, and Mom and Dad. I spent time talking to Steph. She told me she went to Field of Screams, a haunted attraction they have every October. She loves places like that. Maybe she should try Jason’s Woods next year! LOL!We left there around 7:00. Ruby was really glad to see us! Kept kissing my hand. Yep, she missed us.
Yesterday, we went out to eat with Steve’s brother and sister-in-law. Was nice catching up with them. We’ll go out again when it gets warmer! Heh!
Today, it was cold and rainy. A little foggy, too. I spent half of the day catching up with my sleep. I was so tired over the weekend. So now, I feel better.
Mary, I didn’t get all of my baking done. Had to stop because I was getting really stressed. Doing better now.
Not a whole lot on TV tonight, so I’m doing laundry. Lots to do!
Anyway, have a great evening! Bookin’!
Hi, I’m a regular on the Q&A board. You’ve probably noticed that the banner ads at the top of the page are gone. Sweetness was using that as a small source of money to offset the cost of maintaining these boards.
Now that Google has cut off that option, she needs another way of financing this site. If you enjoy chatting here and would like these boards to continue, consider making a small donation to help with the cost. $10/month would go a long way to keep the site going. There’s a “donation” link on the homepage that goes through Paypal.
OK the rush and excitement of Christmas is over and the annual stress generated row with the husb is done with so we can now settle down and just enjoy being with the kids and grand kids. We went skating on a remote pond way off on BLM land. Lovely place, you could see the snow capped Cascades from the middle of the pond. Oregon is really a beautiful state. If you ever have a choice of vacations between Maine and Oregon. Pick Oregon.
Hi Everyone! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
I finally got some time to post in. This last week has been a little on the crazy side. We had our celebration on Christmas Eve, and we all had a wonderful time. Plenty of food, and tons of laughter and love. The kids had a blast, and enjoyed all their gifts. I hope you all had a wonderful day as well.
JANET….what a wonderful wish for everyone. When all is said and done, that really is what is most important at the end of the day. I hope you are having a great time with your family.
RITA….Thank you for my name tag. That was very thoughtful of you.
JO….So good to see you posting in again. I was worried that you got lost. Sorry to hear that your old computer finally went out, but how nice that you got a new one. It also sounds as if you are getting quite a bit accomplished, even on the days with no help. Hang in there. Someday it will be all done, and you will finally have some time for you. What did you end up doing for Christmas?
GWEN….Nice to see you posting in also. Things do have a tendency to get so hectic around the holidays eh? We have not gotten any snow yet. Not one single flake. Looks as if we are just going to have a warm winter here. This is the first year I can ever remember that we have had no snowfall before Christmas. I have been stepping up my campaign to move farther north, but it is still falling on deaf ears. LOL!
SELINDA….I hope you had a peaceful and calm day also. Wouldn’t that be something if Missouri didn’t get any snow at all this year? it would not surprise me though. Stranger things have been known to happen.
DI….you certainly have been doing a lot of baking, and I hope you had time to get it all done. I hope you had fun today.
Time for me to go put my feet up, have a slice of the Blackberry pie my oldest son made for me, and finally relax. Have a safe and happy night. ~~~~~~~
A sincere wish that this holiday season brings peace to the world, the safety of a home and the warmth of family and friends to all of us living on on this little world. Love to all Janet
